Hello, everyone!
今日はウィンタースクール最終日、昨日の疲れなどでお休みが多くなってしまったクラスでしたが今日はサイエンス実験を行いましたよ。
テーマは雪が解けたらどうなる？でした。まずは雪と氷の違いを実際に触って観察します。手のひらに載せると一斉に”It’s cold!”の声が上がりました。
次に同じ大きさの容器それぞれに氷と雪を入れ、数分おきに観察しました。あ！少しずつ溶けていっていますよ。なんだか水たまりのようなものができています。
昼食後、容器を見てみると氷も雪もすっかり解けていました。秤を使って重さを量ってみると、氷が入っていたほうの容器の方がお水も多く重くなっています。同じ量を入れたのに不思議ですね。
子ども達もいろいろと理由を考えてみます。James先生が氷の方が水をぎゅっと閉じ込めて凍っているもの、雪は細かな雪の結晶が固まっているものということで氷の方が溶けた時に水の量がおおいということを説明してくれました。なるほど、そういうことだったのですね。
楽しかった1週間のウィンタースクールもおしまいです。がんばったみんなには修了証が手渡されました。
新年は1月6日（月）からです。しばらくお休みになりますがケガ、事故、そして病気などに気を付けて楽しいお休みにしてください。

Today was the last day of Winter School. Although we have some absentees due to fatigue from yesterday, we had a science experiment today. The theme was “What happens when snow melts? First, we observed the difference between snow and icecube by touching them. When the children touched it, they all shouted “It’s cold!” Next, we placed icecube and snow in each of the same sized containers and observed them every 10 minutes. Ah! They are melting little by little and we can see something like a puddle in the containers.
After lunch, we looked at the containers and found that the icecube and snow had completely melted. We used a scale to weigh the containers and found that the one with icecube was heavier than the one with snow. Isn’t it interesting to see that even though the same amount of water was put into the container? Mr. James explained to the children who was curious why. The fun-filled week of Winter School has come to an end. Everyone who worked hard received a certificate of completion.
The term 3 will begin on Monday, January 6. Please be careful of injuries, accidents, and illnesses, and have an enjoyable holidays!
